Good point. At some point about 20 years ago I concluded that not only liberals were behind this. The rich, heathen, Neo-Con Repubs of CA and New England wanted illegals for cheap domestic help in the '60s and '70s. God knows what horrors they visited upon the daughters and sons of the maids and groundskeepers, in the privacy of their mansions.
