The hotel industry must be having a party now! They can raise rates and "resort" fees to the moon now that they wiped out their competition.
Crony capitalism strikes again.
Time to make uber and Lyft illegal.
Those are much more difficult to take down.
What makes AirBnB an easier target is that it’s used by a small number of local residents (the AirBnB hosts) and a large number of visitors. The visitors have no say in the matter. They only visit the city. If the hotel industry is clever they can run a local campaign that turns the rest of the population away from the AirBnB hosts. The AirBnB hosts are small, independent business people in a newly formed industry. They do not have an industry lobbying group representing them aside from AirBnB itself.
Uber and Lyft are used daily by locals. If you start proposing to ban them you’ll have thousands of locals—some of whom depend on it—calling their city counsellors.
After seeing that video of the nigger bitch in the back seat of an uber cackling and holding a gun on the White driver's head, you can ban all of it.
One more reason to not go to New York.
Unfortunately most travellers do not choose their destinations. They are travelling for business or events. They’ll have to put up with whatever monopoly their destination is cursed with.
