Turbines can "engine brake" if you will. This creates a loud roar from the engine as the passing air forces the engine to spin faster than is provided by the combustion. If you live near a major airport you can sometimes hear them when they throttle back and dive a bit to line up for the runway. The angle of air hitting the throttled engine causes this type of noise.
