The next morning, he turned on the shower and was immediately struck by extremely hot water that knocked him to the floor while the water continued to burn him.

He was one of those maniacs who step into the shower, then turn the water on. I thought those people were a myth.

They are apparently a dying breed, living dangerously has repercussions.

They are apparently a dying breed,

Darwinism at work here.

Jesus Christ, that's a hell of a way to go. I have never personally gotten into a shower without first temp checking it with my hand though so... I'm kinda with the darwinism at work.

The old fart was probably used to his shower at home and entered as usual without a second thought ...

Probably, but who gets into a cold shower before the water is warm?

All speculation but he may have turned it on first like most people, then stepped in after dropping his robe. Being 76, with the shock and urgent reaction to get out he probably slipped and ended up in the tub receiving the brunt of the hot shower screaming for help. I have no idea of the guy's state of mobility before or after.

Old folks aren't as stable on their feet as a young buck. Their agility drops rapidly after 70.

I think state law in my state requires no greater than 120F hot water.
