Investor-owned utility giants, with the support of the labor unions whose workers typically build large-scale solar farms, as well as ratepayer watchdogs and powerful Democratic politicians, claim big changes are needed to address fundamental inequities. They say the current subsidies benefit solar customers, who tend to be wealthier and whiter, at the expense of the poorer communities of color by shifting billions in costs — including the maintenance of transmission systems and projects to prevent power lines from igniting wildfires — to other ratepayers, including those who don’t have solar, can’t afford it or rent their homes.

It's fucking hilarious that the climate change whackos are now head to head with the critical race theory whackos.

I actually read the fucking article, and have one thing to say: A reduced federal incentive is not a federal tax. It means they are paying you less to upgrade your own shit.

Yeah, I noticed the article didn't directly mention the tax after I posed it. It's not a reduced federal incentive, it's a cash penalty. $8 per month per kW of installed solar capacity plus a $16 a month flat fee. If I had solar it would cost me $96 a month just for the tax.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/california-proposes-major-reforms-rooftop-solar-policy-2021-12-13/

Under the proposed reforms, Californians with new solar installations would see a discounted rate for power they sell into the grid and a monthly utility charge of $8 per kilowatt to cover the cost of maintaining the grid.

Yeah that's the government taking their "taste" of what you're making selling electricity to the grid. You'd be selling the electric company hundreds of dollars a month in juice most likely. And any time a citizen makes any money at all, the feds snatch a taste.

But that fee is nowhere in the article you posted. Maybe try better next time picking which article to post? Or maybe you're full of shit.

Nope. Before you can install a solar panel system on your roof it has to be approved by the utility. The utility will not approve oversized systems that generate much more than you historically use. Any extra that you do generate is purchased once a year at 1/30th of the cost they charge you for the same power.

Here, since you missed it:

Solar panels are about as useful as tits on a bull. Unless you are living on a mountain in a log cabin deep among the trees, solar panels are not the answer to your electrical needs.

With the frequency of California power outages, I expect that they are incredibly useful if you want constant consistent power (when paired with battery storage).

They're actually cheaper than electricity from the utility. They just seem whacky to people who have cheap electricity, but when your electric bill is $400-$600 a month it makes a lot of sense to plunk down $20,000 - $30,000 on solar panels. Shit, you can roll that up in a cash-out refinance and pay $130 a month for the loan and deduct the interest from your taxes.

Have you ever tried being energy independent? Do you know what that feels like?

Libtards eating libtards. Still not shocked. I stopped being shocked about this shit a few years ago when they started cancelling each other.

yep, that's what happens when you trust the government.

Government says trust us, invest in this thing and you can make back your money. Then after you put down your money to buy the thing they introduce or raise a fee to have the thing you just bought to make it unprofitable.

why? Government: "cause you're white and have money, so Fuck you"

In a previous arguconversation we had, I spoke concern of them enacting this. They will get everyone on solar, then tax everyone that has solar.

That's how government works. This will push rich white people to drop from the grid altogether. Then they'll pass a law requiring all homes to be attached to the grid regardless of whether you use it.

What I would like to see is a massive movement of people changing their inverters to starve the grid. In other words, shunt any extra power straight into the ground. Residential solar is 11% of California's power right now. Imagine if even 5% of the grid just blinked off.

Cries in NorCal. Fuck Newsom

Commiefornia already requires everyone with solar to be connected to the grid, and prevents their solar installations from working if the grid is down.

When they shut off power to ~1m people a few years ago (probably did again, I just don't keep up because fuck Commiefornia) all the people affected who had solar were without power due to this regulation. Kek.

Yep,everything is going just as planned no problems,oh,look;lets shoot ourselves in the foot.

California is literally a parody of itself

They've realised that people who have energy independence are harder to control. A reminder that PG&E is responsible for the largest fire in California's history.
