Idk about California but most states need the highway funding.

As much as I hate taxes, the answer is more supply not less gas tax. ( I'm sure California isn't doing that either)

All that a "tax holiday" would achieve is that the government would then stop maintaining the roads and after 6 months that 51 cent tax will now be a 70 cent tax (forever) to make up the loss for the 6 months...
