The head nod/bowing is how deer greet and show respect to one another. I watched a documentary of a guy in Montana (if not Montana, then Idaho) who lived among deer for over a year. He slowly befriended them by nodding at them, and they would nod back. They allowed him to get close over time until he could go up and pet them and hang out with them. If they saw any other human, they would bolt.

Neat.

I thought it was something Japanese tourists taught them to do in exchange for treats.

Deer have one of the highest body count of any wild animal in the USA. They kill more than sharks, snakes, coyotes, wolves, and bears.... I think.....

This doesn't sound right.. either you're trolling or I'm in for a big surprise.

Oh you mean those deer.. of course.

i've been looking it up, and its not actually that many deaths per year. Average 20 deaths I think.

Deer behave differently when they aren't worried about getting shot at.

In the summer, they will come hang out on your lawn. As soon as the leaves start to change, they don't come and chill out anymore. Unless it's in my freezer.
