I’ve always thought of the mark in your hand to mean you go along with it but don’t buy in. The mark in your forehead would mean that you’ve fully bought into the lies, and happily go along.
Those that don’t take the mark are sealed by the mark of God in their right hand and forehead; so I take this to be somewhat allegorical and means actions and thought.
Could a mask be a mark on the face or hand?
