Someone who knows more about WW2 history than me - can you tell me why that tank at 0:59 seconds to 60 seconds (or 1 minute) has a painted "Z" on it? It can't possibly have the same meaning as the Russians in the Ukraine conflict these days, right?

I read that Russian Z didn't have any symbolism initially other than to make their armored vehicles easily distinguishable, especially from air.

Could be that Rommel used same method to mark his tanks at some stage, in case they got caught in low visibility setting like a sand storm, and whichever Russian officer made a decision studied Rommels tactics and decided to use that.

Or maybe specific units painted letters on their tanks to be easily distinguished and it's just a coincide that a Z one shoved up in the video, but I'm just guessing here.

Greatest general of the Second World War. He was up there in the class of a Napoleon or a Lee.

Yeah Hitler made a mistake in this case, you don't have your greatest field marshal commit suicide at the greatest crisis point of the war. I think personally Hitler had already given up at this point and wanted everyone to go down with him.
