Hadrian's Wall was one of the best historical things I've ever seen in person. The Picts or painted people were the definition of barbarians in that time and he fortified it so Roman controlled Britannia could keep what would become the Scots out.

I wish I could have a time machine just to watch the things that occurred in Europe over the last 3000 or so years.

We need a new Hadrian definitely.

You want a leader? How about Genghis Khan? There's a leader who got shit done right the first time.

Genghis sent a diplomatic mission to Europe. They got waylaid and wiped out in northern Afghanistan. Genghis sent in his army with orders to kill everything in that area that stood taller than the hub of a wagon wheel. And they did just that. That was over 700 years ago.

When I was in Afghanistan, the Mongolian government sent a company-sized element of the Mongolian army to be part of the coalition. They spent a whole year there, and their patrols ranged all over. And yet, in spite of their best efforts, they couldn't buy any enemy contact for money. Taliban activity all but ceased anywhere within 20 miles of a Mongol patrol.

Because the Afghans still retained a genetic racial memory of what happened the last time anybody there fucked with the Mongols.
