we always hear about the infantry commanders and their daring exploits, but i think that people need to understand just how difficult it could be for a tank commander. aside from the fact that in the worse case scenario, a person could be trapped inside the tank and roast/boil alive, they could also be subjected to horrible treatment by the enemy if captured, because the tank was often seen as unfair by the enemy. it took guts. it took intelligence, and along with being able to make split second decisions while on the move, it took a certain tenacity, that i am not so sure even exist today. patience and the willingness to stay still for a long time, just to get a kill, is often attributed only to snipers, but the same could be said for tankers.
