I missed this post before. Bulova is a heritage brand. From Queens, NYC! They were known throughout the 40's-90's as a solid, middle-class watch. Recently they merged with Citizen and they closed their longtime store and service center in Queens. I can tell you from recently trying to service my old watches that over the past 30 years, their repair and customer service departments are not they used to be and are now trash. My father and his father were both Bulova men and I have owned 2 of them (still have and wear one) and an Accutron (also under the Bulova umbrella) and I will likely not bother with another. Most Bulovas these days are shitters. The Precisionist is OK, but I'd rather take the same $1800 or whatever and get myself an Oris or a Ball. Really, I'd rather save another $1000 and get myself a used Corum.

I didnt know they sold to citizen in 2008. Interesting. I'm sad to see them go.

They made the first radio ad. The first television ad. The only privately owned watch to have ever been on the moon(because the government issued omega broke lol. Bulova wins). Invented many horological innovations. Taught others at their school.

They did great things for American watchmaking and watchmaking in general.

If you're really into American watchmaking, be sure to check out Ball. They're superior IMO to Bulova's current offerings and came out almost the same year as Bulova. They have a rich horological tradition in that they were originally designed for railroad men who needed precision timekeeping.

I am interested in exploring luxury German watches like A. Longe Sohnne (very pricy) and Glasshutte and Japanese watches. Right now, At the $5K price point, no one has a better dial or finishing than Grand Seiko IMO.

Seiko has that history too. There are people watches like Rolex, and there are watchlovers watches like seiko. Patek Phillipe used to be until they became well known as "the most expensive" and then rappers wanted it. Then everyone jumped on the bling train and mediocre watches became high end by gluing diamonds on themselves like hublot
