I do about half my shopping at my local Chink grocery store. It is generally cheaper and I enjoy the experience, other than being surrounded by Asians.
But the surprising thing is the origin of most of the products; certainly there will be imports, it is an Asian grocery store, after all.
However, all the mysterious dried mushrooms, most of the frozen pork dumplings, are not. All of these packages, despite being written in chink, if you check the back, they are all made in America, and simply packaged for a slanty-eyed consumer.
The mushrooms all come from Kennett Square, the dumplings are all made in NY/Northern NJ, but America makes and packages a lot of the chink food, it seems like most of the imports are actually branded snacks and some of the fruits and spices.
