That was the cause of the release. Shit was contained - they said that product was heating up in the cars and building pressure, but not leaking.

Bingo. But if they could get close enough to measure pressure, the fires were easily manageable. The wreck didn't go as planned so they had to donate it.

They routinely spray cold water on tankers and other flammable containers if a fire is close by. They fight the fire and keep the chemicals or gas/oil etc containers cool until the fire us out.

In the case of tankers, they then would safely remove the chemicals.
