X10 was great until BSR bought the rights and got all cheap and sleazy with it

Pico developed X10 because of BSR and a project they did with ultrasonic remote controls for one of BSR's turntables. Since BSR had the marketing already, Pico decided to explore the possibility of using that system to control other things. It was brought to market as a partnership between BSR and Pico.

oh man. I remember buying a bunch of this junk off of ebay way back and running Mr. House to control it. Some of it kind-of worked. Most of it was meh and at more than one point I was woken up in the middle of the night because some light module freaked out and decided to make my room the surface of the sun.

Fun times. Not interested in playing with any of that gear again.

You have to be careful about noise sources with this stuff. CFLs and early switching supplies would make the things act crazy.
