Bad argument. The power plant isn't necessarily oil-fired, and even if it were, it could be achieving a better energy conversion efficiency than the ~30% efficient engine in your average car. Depending on your distance to the power plant, the transmission losses may or may not cancel out the savings.

The classic photo was out of the UK i believe. It showed a petrol powered van towing a diesel generator which was being used to charge an electric vehicle with flat battery.

Which is why I planned my solar system to make enough to charge an EV 6000 miles a year. I'll buy one later when battery pricing has come down more and charging will be free and really green.

Lol. Electric bike definitely better than a gas car though. When I biked to work I saved a ton of money and was super fit.

A lot of the emissions from green products comes in the manufacturing. Solar panel for example have toxic processes when producing them.
