I'm tech stupid and this is definitely a attack on someone. I'll be the first to push a conspiracy theory and say it's related to McAfee and mk ultra trying to control the fishing game at Dave and busters, I heard this from very good sources.

Never buy home storage that is connected to the cloud. Keep them separate. That's how these were wiped.

Probably trying to erase all the historical videos and records of things that people have downloaded and offer on the new video sites like peertube and others.

I would bet about 50% of all home computer archivists use those WD drives

It will be very interesting and sad to see how this affects the availability of content on places like peertube.

That's why using an operating system you control for your storage systems is important. BSD and Linux are good choices. As far as I know FreeNAS also doesn't need to phone home and is not controlled by any "cloud" account.
