In this case, I started with the question "what does it mean when a person was laid off" and eventually worked m,y way up to having it write this: Subject: Important Update Regarding [Department Name] Dear [Department Name] Team, I am writing to inform you that due to unforeseen business circumstances, we have made the difficult decision to dissolve the [Department Name] department and unfortunately, this means that some of our team members will be laid off. We understand that this is a difficult and uncertain time for all of you, and we want to assure you that we have done everything possible to minimize the impact on our team. We are committed to ensuring that affected employees are treated fairly and with respect.
