That's awesome. Touchscreens suck when you are stationary, let alone moving over bumps. A button allows for you to feel without looking.

Designers who change locations of the buttons , displaying a complete opposite function when the screen changes should be shot on sight too.

True story -

Late 80's or early 90's - Insurance company noticed that there were far more rollovers happening. They look into it and find that it's just pickup trucks rolling over more. Look into it further, and it's just GM/Chevys. And the amount of rollovers jumps once it hits a specific year, a year they did a redesign of their trucks.

Insurance company buys new and old GM trucks. Purposely roll them to find out why the new ones are more likely to roll over than the old ones. Finally they figured out why the new trucks roll over more.

When they redesigned the trucks, yes they redesigned the body of the truck. But they also redesigned the heat/AC controls. So those old farmers would be driving down the gravel roads and have to take their eyes off the road to adjust the heat. They'd accidentally steer out of the ruts onto the loose gravel, lose control, dip into the ditch, and roll.

They spent millions, totalled a bunch of trucks, and took a year or two to figure it out.

Hah. Having been in the tech field for 30 years, I've loved watching so many companies over-engineer stuff to the point of being useless to humans. Maybe some of you remember the ever-shrinking keyboards, and thus laptops, of the early 2000s before they realized peoples' fingers were only so small and had to stop.

My truck has a touch screen, and I fucking hate it. Having spent some years in the automotive service industry, I totally understand why using a touchscreen is a big benefit to the reliability and easy repair of a vehicle. But wow it sucks to use. And I guess somebody in the auto industry is finally hearing that.

Gee, it's too bad someone can't come up with a textured touch screen which would combine the ease of a multi-function computer with an integrated display, and a good tactile feel for "buttons". Oh well. Guess we'll just have to wait...
