I am of the opinion that anything with LED's in it should let me disable them if I want to. They use up juice and add extra light. You would not believe how much black electric tape I have used covering up LED's (For the things I don't feel like opening up to de-soldier them, or for the stupid devices that no longer will work if you remove the LED because of some stupid hardware or software constraint).

They use up juice

LED Color Power Consumption
Red 36mW
Yellow 42mW
Green 44mW
Blue 64mW
White 64mW

Let's say there are 10 blue LEDs on the device:

10 * 64mW = 640 mW

640 mW * 24 hrs = 15.36 WH

15.36 WH * 365 days = 5606.4 WH

5.6 KWH per year * $0.1536 (average cost per KWH) = $0.86 per year

$0.86 cents per year

I don't think you'll notice the extra power consumption on your bill.

Its mostly for battery driven devices. Ex. Wireless headset. Just turning off all of the LED's in the control panel the battery lasts for days now not for like 8 hours. If I forget to plug it in to charge it still works the next day.

Also, I hate the "light pollution" at night when I want to sleep. LED's annoy the hell out of me.

You guys use too much power, we need to SAVE energy!!!

Meanwhile they remove all physical on/off switches and have an LED every inch for no apparent reason.

And in the background the microphones are on and the micros are capturing everything so the active on WiFi connection can burn power uploading..

Cost aside, I never really cared either way about cfl or led. My issue with led is that the bulbs are incredibly hit or miss. It's about a 50 50 chance they start flicking within a year, and that they die within 3. The electric savings over incandescent is nice, but the tech is annoying.

I did like CFLs. I know they're toxic, but those fuckers lasted forever and had a nice spectrum of you bought a quality brand

I always hated how CFL's had to "warm up" when it was cold outside. They were dim as fuck until they were on for a while and heated up.

Yeah, there is that. It's not my choice for a quick use bulb like a garage, shed, closet, etc. but once they warm up they're good. And they don't flicker like LED does.

I must have gotten lucky. I used N-Vision CFLs for years (CFL, what a fad overall), had decent color and light. I've been using Sylvania reduced eye strain 100W equivalent LED bulbs and I'm still on one that's lasted a couple of years running 14+ hours a day. No flicker, no blue bump in spectrum. I got a bunch on clearance a few years ago.

Yeah, you definitely are. My work has a combo of the long florescent tubes and LEDsocket bulbs. We've run the gambit on brands and it's literally 50 50
