My boss logs outr use and if we don't use it enough, he gets pissy. I just use it even after I have found the answer via a normal search just to keep from ending up on the naughty list.
The company managers telling developers to use a LLM tool either believe the tool will make the developers more productive, or that it will replace them. Maybe they hope the tool will allow cheaper, “junior”, or Indian developers to do the work of senior devs so they can fire all of their expensive devs.
That’s why they are getting upset when they find out some of their developers are not using the new miracle tool.
Oddly, this long article say nothing about why managers are angry at employees who don’t drink the AI Kool Aid.
Copilot licenses are $30 on top of the standard Office 365 license. I don't know what the others cost, I only use the search AI when looking for something that is proving difficult to find with normal search means. But knowing the license fee, I can understand why companies are pushing for its use.
Oh, and to those that have the Copilot license...get creative with your questions regarding HR. Odds are high your IT guys didn't put safeguards in to keep the peons from seeing sensitive information.
If that was required of me, I'd run all my emails and texts through it to anyone demanding use of it. And make sure my prompt includes "be especially verbose and make everything into a bullet-point list".
