Two years ago, my husband's former employer (Amazon) launched a multimillion dollar campaign urging prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia to charge him with the crime of depriving the company of his "honest services." A few months after Amazon made its allegations, prosectors used a tool called "civil forfeiture" to seize the money we had paid our lawyers, our family and my husband's business bank accounts.

Eastern District of Virginia tells me her husband worked likely for the government part of Amazon which is why they probably Amazon got all his shit seized. As for "honest services"? That's pretty fucking vague. A megacorp like Amazon shouldn't have this power but something else is going on here.

Amazon investigated and concluded that Northstar had charged it exorbitant leasing fees and then secretly funneled some of those ill-gotten gains back to the Amazon employees. Northstar “obtained all of their business with us by fraud, and specifically by paying bribes and kickbacks to corrupt insiders within our company,”

Looks like Nelson and his buddy tried to skim off the top on some inflated prices. The old "jack up the price for Amazon from the real price and you two can pocket the difference" scheme. Everyone is a fucking crook here.

In fact, over the past two decades, state and federal governments together have seized over $68.8 billion from Americans. Both anecdotes and statistics tell the story that civil forfeiture is deployed disproportionately against people of color, low-income Americans, and immigrants.

I agree. Whenever there is money to be made, there is corruption. There should be no way for anyone to profit financially for charging someone with a crime or bringing them to court for a criminal offense.

This bullshit happens all too frequently. Some random dude from here pulled out $10,000 plus from his savings. Got a traffic stop. Cops took all of his money. He was eventually able to get it back by "proving" it was legit, but in the old days citizens were innocent until proven guilty. This reverses that and should be abolished as it makes cops out to be thieves.

this kind of crap is why crypto is best.

Don't deal with USD, or banks at all and potentially avoid this situation or having to worry about it entirely. But no... normies think you're crazy until it happens to their fundraiser like in the canadian convoy thing. They didn't adopt a crypto donation method until suddenly and completely predictably tyrants called up the banks and stole all their money. or "froze it" whatever. Money you can't spend isn't yours, same effect.
