Two years ago, my husband's former employer (Amazon) launched a multimillion dollar campaign urging prosecutors in the Eastern District of Virginia to charge him with the crime of depriving the company of his "honest services." A few months after Amazon made its allegations, prosectors used a tool called "civil forfeiture" to seize the money we had paid our lawyers, our family and my husband's business bank accounts.

Eastern District of Virginia tells me her husband worked likely for the government part of Amazon which is why they probably Amazon got all his shit seized. As for "honest services"? That's pretty fucking vague. A megacorp like Amazon shouldn't have this power but something else is going on here.

Amazon investigated and concluded that Northstar had charged it exorbitant leasing fees and then secretly funneled some of those ill-gotten gains back to the Amazon employees. Northstar “obtained all of their business with us by fraud, and specifically by paying bribes and kickbacks to corrupt insiders within our company,”

Looks like Nelson and his buddy tried to skim off the top on some inflated prices. The old "jack up the price for Amazon from the real price and you two can pocket the difference" scheme. Everyone is a fucking crook here.
