Here's all that really matters if you could look at only one thing accurately and as frequently as you like. Median standard of living - cost of living. Everything else is either a distraction or a figure used in hope of hinting at that as a placeholder.

Don't buy stock. At minimum it is morally wrong to buy anything that doesn't yield a dividend because you are further giving reinforcement to the idea that investments don't need to produce inlays. This is dangerous and unsustainable and will destroy our civilization (already has to a degree).
