Being able to think and speak freely keeps society dynamic because being able to challenge any idea prevents festering in bad ideas.
Yes, but we haven't gotten rid of any of the previous bad ideas that have been implemented.
I've heard ideas go on the shelf of history rather than the trash bin of history. So, there will be some who always hold bad ideas and eventually bad ideas will crop up again. Free speech gives us a chance to put bad ideas on the shelf.
So when are we going to put all the welfare and other social programs on the shelf and stamp them as failed? The current political landscape in the US is massive expansion of said programs and the other is continued slow growth of the same programs. Very few talk about actual cuts (any cut DC or states do is cuts to increased spending) to shrink the budgets and even fewer try to follow through with it.
