Because planned obsolescence is alive and well
Sure, by saying "No" you're saying you're fine with planned obsolescence.
Wouldn't be a problem if the government didn't control the markets--meaning the corps can buy that power.
I think it would be just worse, I think people who see the gov as the mother of all problems are myopic
Who's censoring people on social medias?
Not .gov, at least for the US
It's private companies, big business
...
Who's paying .gov to pass abusive legistlations?
The same types
What would happen if those types had free reign, with no anti trust laws for instance? Hm?
For some odd reason we would be less fucked by those same types?
...
I have my doubts, to say the least
If the government doesn't regulate the market, then there can be no monopolies. Meaning, no planned obsolescence, because if you, as a company, employ such tactics, you'll be crushed by the free market. You'll be crushed by individuals wanting to buy the best product--the one that doesn't break after 30 days--for the cheapest price.
Apple could try to make their phones die after a year, but they have no government subsidies, no govt contracts, no special legal standing to secure their business. Meaning, any other company can replicate their product and out compete them in the market.
Thing's like monopolies exist because of government intervention in the market economy. Social media platforms can censor with impunity, why? Because they're the social media monopolies. How? Because they get special privileges secured by the government. Privileges like: cheaper production costs because of govt subsidies, tax exemptions, all the licensing and certifications they could need, etc.
As an example, look at airliners. Why are there only 4-5 major commercial airliners? Because they use the government to increase the barriers to entry of their industry. You can't just start and airline service. You have to get all the government certifications, licensing, approvals, insurance, etc. Meaning, you can't start an airliner unless you've got millions upon millions to dump into it before you can open your doors and start earning revenue.
As well, how can your up-start airline service compete against airliners that are bailed out by the government any time they make a major mistake. Just like the major banks, post 2008 crisis the government gave out $900 Billion in bailouts to the same banks who crashed the economy. If those banks had to pay their own debts, they wouldn't exist today. But, now they're bigger than ever.
There are plenty of anti-trust laws. Yet, we have more monopolies than ever before. The answer isn't more government, it's less.
