It's been a long while since I associated with anyone who did time, (so my information may be dated) but from what I've heard, the hard core guys like AB, BGF, La Eme, NF, etc. are not normally housed with guys doing two year bits.
The killings are normally in maximum security institutions. And unless an inmate kills a guard, turning two years into life is pretty slim.
My cousin told me if he ever gets sick or too old to take care of himself (no health insurance), he will commit some low level crime to get prison medical care. So I guess he's on the other end of the spectrum.
Not that I'm advocating this, but Federal inmates generally get better medical care someone in a state pen.
Thanks for the inside info, I'll tell him to steer his crime that way.
