I provide services for a dealership and have spent significant time discussing this issue with the folks there. They do, indeed, have a shortage. They are not giving any deals on cars and are trying to squeeze as much profit as they can from every sale because of limited inventory. They are in the shit, and losing tons of money, but the govt bailout gave them a few million to keep going. There are lots of thousands of cars that are just about complete but are sitting in lots waiting for chips.
