Oh they definitely did. The British Indian Army was involved in numerous foreign operations from the late 1700s up until 1945. Afghanistan, Burma, Chinese Opium Wars, WWI, WW2, and many other engagements.

Doesn't the British Army still use the Brigade of Ghurkas?

Yes but the British Army has been recruiting them out of Nepal for the last several decades. India mostly recruits theirs from northern West Bengal (Darjeeling area).

They were still active in 2003-06.
