Mask wearing en masse has been a thing for decades in many areas of Asia.
Japanese people already have weird social issues. I imagine not being able to learn to read faces as a child will make you seem odd. It'll also make you an easy mark for criminals or liars. A whole generation of dupes who can't tell when they are being lied to...
You know that "bullshit detector" that goes off when you're watching any given politician speak? That's your ability to read their face and determine that what they're saying does not match what they're projecting facially.
Before all this, I used to be able to relate to or at least understand nearly anyone I met. I could read their faces, even if I didn't understand everything they said. It was a skill that got me through many tough situations and into many good times.
Now though... even the ones that aren't masked seem much more wary and guarded. It's honestly depressing, and moreso knowing it's based on manipulation, dishonesty and greed.
The way the media framed the mask nonsense was brilliant: "It doesn't protect you at all- it protects other people FROM you!" This makes it acceptable to bully people who choose not to wear a mask. The fucking government is openly telling the population that "People who are not wearing masks COULD KILL YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY!"
So it's okay to be hostile towards people who are not sick and are willing to chance catching the bullshit disease. It's so fucking sinister in its simplicity.
This whole thing really is a brilliant play. Never underestimate your opponents

You mean 2020/21 in general?
Try 150 years. Yes that long.
