People are spoiled by cheap Chinese crap. At least in the US. Try to buy something made in the United States, much less hand made, and you pay 2-3x as much. Often it is better quality, but I would not say that's a guaranty. Foreign (meaning Asian, basically) appliances have completely supplanted American ones, for instance.
