Freedom: The state of being free from oppression and persecution.
What is NOT freedom: The right to do whatever you please.

The ability to act without control or over sight from others. self determination....or something like that
That's like asking how we define the word 'under'.
Under _what_? Freedom from _what_?
That's what we're trying to figure out. What do you consider being free means?
It means lots of things. You can be free from the government screwing you over, free from big companies screwing you over, free from friends and relatives screwing you over, free from debt, free from fear, free from obligation...
Some people might add 'free to', as well. Free to be happy. Free to be secure. Free to pursue an idea or a social position or a material goal.
All this stuff counts, and they are all different problems with different solutions and different consequences.
To me, freedom is being able to speak your mind and participate in society without the fear of being censored, persecuted, or oppressed by a higher authority because of your identity, views, or opinions.
And like @Realhero33 said, freedom does not mean the right to do whatever you please nor does it mean total anarchy.
Try and make me, I don't have to define shit.
