I've actually been looking around for providers and when I read the TOS, every single one of them says essentially the same thing: they can take you down for posting offensive or hate speech. So far, I can't find any providers that say otherwise.

As a side note, I host many websites using various hosting companies. I recently discovered that none of my providers actually have a data center. Ok, one has an actual data center (Hurricane Electric). All the others use AWS or Azure and all they do is resell the service. This explains the homogeneous TOS.

I am now building my own small data center. I refuse to use Microsoft or Amazon servers. I won't be big enough to support Poal, but hosting my own sites, no problem.

Makes sense that almost everyone is just reselling aws. Have to figure out how to avoid these boom and bust cycles where everything migrates to a heavily centralized monopolies before figuring out that just means the monopolies own everything.

Yeah agree. Have you looked at Orange Hosting out of Iceland ??. They have their own Dell server Data Centre. Its the same host that Jim Stone guy living in Mexico uses for his site. He's only had good things to say about them, as compared to everywhere else as you seem to have found out. Their TOS sounds straight forward - ' Hosting or linking to Child Pornography etc, and Supporting or sponsoring terrorism' . However as a Hosting Company they state it's not their job to decide on things like defamation, slander, libel etc, so will leave up to Icelandic Courts (not the jurisdiction where the user is based) to make a determination and then respond appropriately . IE, the affected party would have to initiate a case in the Icelandic Court system.

From their FAQ- ' I found content on a website hosted on your servers that I find offensive. How can I ask you to remove it? We are a free speech hosting provider and, thus, the cost of that is that there may be content hosted on our servers that some people might find offensive. Once we start taking down such web sites, then we are no longer a free speech hosting service provider.

However, if you believe you have found content that is illegal or against our TOS, please send us an email at <abuse@orangewebsite.com>

PS. Theres a similar named Small Orange Hosting site out of the States which is well .... governed by US Law for it's TOS.
