It is hard to say. Gonzalo Lira wasn't anything close to the saint media is propagandizing him out to be. Skeevy on every level. Not a journalist by any measure. But was was in fact a video uploader. It would be more accurate to call him an unreliable narrator. That said, the Ukraine desperately needs the assistance of foreign countries. The US, Chile. Money. Weapons. Supplies. Military aid if they can at all convince anyone. The last thing they want to do is to be seen torturing citizens of foreign countries who might be an asset against Russia. If it was the locals pissed off, they would have killed him by now. If it was the Ukraine official, if they torture him they won't show off any pictures and would kill him at the end. Or they might kill him outright. Or it might be worth their while to imprison him for the duration so as not to piss off any allies. But the one thing they cannot do is publicly make an example out of him.
