Everyone needs some narcissistic behaviors, at appropriate times, in order to not be taken advantage of by actual pathological narcissists who are incapable of empathy. This is the heart of the problem with politics... common sense defense mechanisms are defeated by outrage propaganda.
Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder are different.
Borderline Personality Disorder is a crossed set of wires involving affection and anger, where mood swings combine them into a simultaneous state. The swings are difficult to overcome, even with medication, usually leaving a BPD person to constantly fight with people they are most affectionate towards.
