Option #1: Each time you'll browse and refresh /all/new page, Poal will automatically update your "last visit data with the newest post id". A new "new posts since your last visit in /all/new" page will be accessible from a new [SLV] button added next to HOT/NEW/POP/TOP. Option #2: A new "Bookmark" button will be added to each posts in /all/new. A new "new posts since your last bookmark" page will be accessible from a new [SLB] button added next to HOT/NEW/POP/TOP. ---- Note: all new posts in that new page will be sorted from oldest to newest, and that feature **will be synced on all the devices you are using to browse Poal!** If you have a better idea for the name of that button, leave a comment. Unpopular Opinion: Poal should look like Reddit in 2014, but with Voat's color scheme from 2016.

I love it.

Should be nominated worst idea for the next 2023's Frosties.

It's a fun feeling, isn't it.

I like the server side option. I use 5 or 6 devices to access poal. I’m always on the move so I don’t really know what device I’ll be using throughout the day.

I currently browse all/new exclusively, but #1 presents undesired behavior for me and lack of control for what posts would be included in this Since Last X page.

I voted for #2 (New Since Last Bookmark) as I would use that over #1.

I do not believe I can set all/new to sort oldest>newest and only posts from the last 6/12/24 hours, which would be quite useful to me (if this exists already, I would appreciate help pointing out how to do this). Currently, when I load all/new it is sorted from most recent to oldest. I then endless scroll down looking at/reading posts until I reach a few that seems familiar to where I left off at the previous visit/day.

With #1, that top, most recent post when I loaded all/new would be marked as the start point of posts made after that post that will be shown in the New Since Last Visit page. However, if I was unable to fully catch up on all/new posts to where I previously left off at, some posts between where I made it down to and where I left off the previous visit/day will not be included in the Since Last Visit page as it would be going by the top/most recent post on the page when I loaded all/new.

The #2 SLB function would be more useful to me as I could control what posts get included in the SLB page versus the most recent post on all/new being set as what is used to determine new posts to include.

Without changing my browsing behavior from how it currently is, with #2 I will be able to mark where I started from on all/new before I scroll down toward getting to where I left off the previous visit/day, but the unviewed posts between where I made it down to and where I left off at the previous visit/day would still not be included in the SLB page. This is easily compensated for by altering my browsing behavior to browsing all/new exclusively via the SLB page.

However, if #2 is implemented then I can just load all/new and immediately endless scroll all the way down to where I left off at the previous visit/day. I will then set my SLB bookmark there and then switch to viewing the SLB page exclusively in the future when I visit poal instead of browsing all/new.

While on the SLB page, when I reach the bottom I can just switch my bookmark to that last post and reload to see any new posts since that post. With this bookmark ability and SLB page, I could browse new posts exclusively from this page and never miss any posts due to not having the time to endless scroll down all/new to where I left off at the previous visit/day in one visit/browsing session/page load.

This is exactly the point. # 1 is what you want. You have the same issue that I have which is why I made this feature request.

Can you work out a categorization system for subs?

Like a sortable genre of subs?

Memes, political, hobbies, news, etc.?

And have each sub owner choose what genre their sub falls into

[–] 2 pts

I've been working it, but it takes time.

I think I'll be able to roll it out in a next major update (couple months?).

Sweet

in the meantime you can use something that has been a thing since day one, multiple subs.

https://poal.co/m/news+usnews+worldnews

use the /m/ endpoint and subnames separated by +

Will the Ministry of Truth get notifications every time I browse ?

Is there a way to incorporate both options with a user being able to choose between the two, or none, in user settings?

I like both options for different reasons. No matter what, it'll be a neat feature.

I might probably consider doing that if the poll ends up close to a tie.

Either works for me.

I have bookmarks on my phone saved and they are searches for the latest Covid, Ukraine, Russia or hot topic issue.

Huh, TIL there's a pop button. I never really pay attention to that part of the screen.
