Marriage is between man woman and God.

Marriage is between man woman and God.

Precisely.

I disagree, here's how it should be.

Its the government duty to recognize a marriage in accordance to the laws of God, and its own regulations and laws can never supercede it. Failing to perform this basic recognition means the government thinks of itself higher than God, and its the duty of every God-fearing man to overthrow, sabotage and at the very least promote its complete and total deestabilization through the best means available to him.

Why the distinction is important? Because all governments will encroach on anything that fo not have any breaks on it.

Governments are too involved in people's lives. So abolish.

And while we're at it, get rid of corporations too.

Marriage is a theological construct. Unless you’re using it to establish a treaty, there should be no reason to include the state.

Agree, it serves no good purpose when a judge is available to officiate a marriage any day.

Based on a quick but sort of inconclusive search, only 7-10 states plus DC recognize Common Law marriage.

As others have said. The state should not be involved in marriage. Not only that, the state should not be involved in the distribution of assets if a marriage fails.
