My vacuum just bit the dust. It was a Miele, I got it because I remembered an AMA from a vacuum repair guy more than 10 years ago who said they were the best. It had terrible suction and the cord isn't long enough to make it all the way across some rooms (have to stop half way and plug into a closer outlet).

So, can anyone please recommend a great vacuum, good for pet hair in carpets, can also handle tile, has a long cord, preferably an upright with a canister instead of a bag, and a lot of suction.

Thanks.

In my opinion, don't bother with a Dyson - fucker is next level on carpet, mediocre at best on hard wood, but overall seems very cheaply made - 600 bucks I wish we could get back (and dyson warranty/customer service are stacks of shit). We got it as an alternative for a Shark we had that burned out during a power surge and the model of shark wasn't made any longer. We have found a replacement Shark now and the Dyson will be headed out here shortly.

Current Models:

Dyson Ball Animal 3

Shark Navigator - lift-away

Ditto. We have a Dyson and a Shark The Dyson will suck the cat off the rug, but structurally and ergonomically it's a POS. I have a nutone central vac unit in the garage that I may plumb into the house someday.

I was just looking at the Dyson ball animal, and the 2 is more expensive than the 3. Weird.
