My vacuum just bit the dust. It was a Miele, I got it because I remembered an AMA from a vacuum repair guy more than 10 years ago who said they were the best. It had terrible suction and the cord isn't long enough to make it all the way across some rooms (have to stop half way and plug into a closer outlet).

So, can anyone please recommend a great vacuum, good for pet hair in carpets, can also handle tile, has a long cord, preferably an upright with a canister instead of a bag, and a lot of suction.

Thanks.

I have one of these... It works well for pet hair and has a very long cord but it is a bag vac not canister. One of the reasons I got this one is because its more quiet than most vac's are and my pet(s) are sensitive to the noise. I have had it for a bit over a year I think and have not had any problems with it yet.

How is the suction on it? If you placed the nozzle to your palm, could it stay attached to your hand and not fall?

Yeah, I think it probably would even if it was in the "quiet" mode. When its in the "boost" (louder) mode it definitely would.
