My vacuum just bit the dust. It was a Miele, I got it because I remembered an AMA from a vacuum repair guy more than 10 years ago who said they were the best. It had terrible suction and the cord isn't long enough to make it all the way across some rooms (have to stop half way and plug into a closer outlet).

So, can anyone please recommend a great vacuum, good for pet hair in carpets, can also handle tile, has a long cord, preferably an upright with a canister instead of a bag, and a lot of suction.

Thanks.

I was lucky and didn't have to deal with the sales guy. Someone had literally dumped it on the side of the road with a note that said broken. It wasn't, they just didn't know how to attach the cloth bag properly. I really lucked out. I've had it at least 15 years at this point and it even survived an angry ex. I picked up accessories off eBay for it.
