When they start crying, wait at least 5 minutes before you do anything. Do this when they're born. Some cries do need an immediate response, and you'll know your baby if you pay attention. Hungry cries, for example, is a good one to wait on; they won't starve in those 5 minutes. A good strong cry is a sign of good health. You still need to pay attention in case a cry is because of something you do need to take care of immediately.
