I don't think it's been jewed as much as it has been corrupted by power, decadence, man made traditions, Marian dogma. The RCC tradition hinges on a verse in the new testament that is open to conflicting interpretations. There is no proof Peter was even ever in Rome. Most of that stuff started after 300. The RCC elevates Mary to a position she never held as a mediator between God and man and a redeemer. They pray to the dead but they call it petitioning the saints. How do they know the people they pray to are even in heaven? None of that is biblical.
