I have 4 dogs, daughter has 3. We take them frequently to the mountains and while they are mostly obedient, sometimes one will take off when distracted. We've had a few close calls. Any input is appreciated.

Best option here would be to get one of those dog harnesses with zip pouches and put in it a smartphone with Google Maps location share on, or with any other apps that can show you location of other phones.
