Has anyone used their 5.7 firearm on any kind of feral animals? In the past I've had great success on feral dogs and hogs in my yard using 7.62x39 but now I have more neighbors and I might need to power down a little. I guess I could use my Mossberg 590A1 using Federal Flite Control Wad ammo but that might reduce my range a little too much. I don't know. I guess it would be better to err on the side of caution. Well, shit, I guess I answered my own question. I would still like to hear about experience with the 5.7 and hogs if anyone has any.

Yeah, in that case it's straight to 7.62x51, 12 ga. or .45 ACP...

5.7x28 is not enough for wild hogs. It's pistol/SMG cartridge designed for close defense of VIPs and reliably piercing kevlar at 50+ yards. The armor piercing ammo which it is designed for is restricted to LEO/Military anyway.

5.56/223 at the minimum if you want a more accurate cartridge. 7.62 x 39 would be more ideal.

I know from first hand the 5.7 will take out coyotes without a hassle. no limping around and shit if you shoot em cleanly. usually passes right through, so you will need to watch the backdrop.

Depends on distances, a 22lr will take down any animal with correct correct shot placement.

I'd feel a lot better about that round out of a carbine or rifle. Out of a pistol...meh. also expensive round to use for varmits, but to each his own.
