Crime and Punishment. Started reading it. Didn't like it. It's stupid.

The Idiot is far superior, but underrated work of Dostoyevsky.

I rarely agree with your opinion, but the copy of The Idiot my grandmother gave me is one of my favorite possessions

What did she mean by this?

Jokes aside, he really put humanity on display in that book.

She had an incredible book collection, and she was probably one of the most intelligent women I have ever known.

She was, to my knowledge, one of the few women in the country to graduate with an advanced degree in biology at the time. Never did anything with it, but instead was a dutiful wife to my grandfather.

She smoked a lot, drank a lot, read a lot, and was a classical liberal who was unrepentant about her feelings towards 'The White Man's Burden'.

She loved people of all races, but wasn't apologetic with her estimations of non-whites and their intelligence.

I remember a dinnertime conversation we had about her travels when I was a child, with my father and my step-mother.

She spoke of something silly an Argentinian had done, I can't remember what, but I do remember her saying:

But he was an Argentine, so it wasn't like he was intrinsically stupid, like the Brazilians

And I remember my Ultra-Liberal Academic step-mother getting super defensive about that, saying that Brazilians were not intrinsically stupid.

Just a funny memory. But I do really miss that lady.

The Idiot was good? I wanted to try it, but it was so hard to get through Crime and Punishment, I have avoided him since finishing it.

It's a lot better and realistic book.

Crime and Punishment has some really exhausting parts for sure.

The characters, especially the main one are unrealistic and illogical. That's what put me off.
