While, as a horror aficionado, I never thought he was the best writer, the shit he wrote on coke is generally regarded as way better than the shit he wrote after he got sober.

Yes - he used the pseudonym "Richard Bachman" for a while. Believe one of the books was Four Past Midnight. It included "Rage" - a story about a kid that shoots his classmates. Then Columbine happened, and the story disappeared. Look for an old used copy on eBay or thriftboks.com
