It does take longer. The regular strength mode brews faster than any coffee maker I've had in the past. Now I'm curious to test the time difference. I usually brew up to the 8 cup line. The regular mode might save a minute or so. I suppose this could be a valid reason, but since you can remove the carafe to pour some coffee while it is brewing, idk.
