Aquariums are great but have gotten really expensive lately. Also I love roadside attractions. Stuff like The Big Hole or caves/caverns. I'm going to the air races in Roswell in September and I plan to take a morning and go to the Carlsbad Caverns.

Have fun at Carlsbad! The caves are amazing and it's a fun hike too.

Find a museum for something uncommon or off the wall. For instance - if in the vicinity of St. Joseph, MO you could visit the Glore Psychiatric Museum. Or search for other peculiarities in your area , and make it a road trip!

I learned of the 5 Story Chicken in Marietta Georgia from that site, and paid it a visit once when passing through GA.

Depends where you come from, maybe goruck.com would be something that suits you.

One of the various flight museums in the country. Look at some fighter planes. The one in Ohio next to the big airbase is pretty cool.

The Air Force Museum at WPAFB is awesome.

It's free entry, although I usually through a couple bucks in the donation jar.

I need to get back there. I went as a kid and thought it was awesome. I think I'd appreciate it even more now knowing more about all the absolutely rare and bonkers planes they have.

They've opened a space gallery and moved many of the restricted on-base exhibits into the main halls. If you haven't been there in a while, it's got 33% more fun for you.

Go to the No 9 Coal Mine and Museum, located in scenic downtown Jim Thorpe, PA. You can learn all about the exciting history of anthracite coal and how it shaped our nation.

Don't forget to unwind afterwards with a movie at the Mahoning Drive-In movie theatre, showing real 35mm films on their original, 70-year-old projector. Don't be shy, the projectionist has an open door policy, and gladly answers all questions.

Trite, but a zoo or aquarium. Always amazed how much work goes into the exhibits now as an adult

Planetariums don't get enough love.

They're not nearly as common. But yeah, they're good too.

Supply and demand... I demand they get more love, this the supply will increase.

Travel to a city/state you have never been to that has a few decent museums and since it's the right time of the year some Botanical gardens. Ideally somewhere within driving distance of something like a hot springs.

Only make a list of the things you could do and when things are open. Not a target to achieve. Sometimes you go do something and expect to do 5 other things that day but what is the point if you enjoy what you are doing? Just hang out longer and if you decide to come back to the area again you can do one of those things another time.
