After Constantinople fell to sand niggers the Russians (specifically Ivan the Terrible) claimed Russia as the inheritors of Christiandom and deliberately invoked Tsar from Ceasar to crown themselves the "Third Rome."
It's noteworthy that "terrible" is really a poor translation and the Russian word "grozny" that is used by Russians to describe him really means like "feared" (by his enemies) or formidable (in battle). So more "terrible" to his enemies not his people.

Thanks. Interesting. Confusing timeline.
So there were 2 claims of being Rome overlapping several hundred years.
