It's the time of year when marten females move into your roof to have and raise kids. My wife is worried about raccoons too. I doubt they'd fit into the cracks between shingles but here we are.

There was something on TV where a raccoon supposedly slipped into a cat flap, killed the cat and got comfy in the cat tree. Unfortunately, my wife saw it and she's now worried. Don't ask.

Had a female marten and her offspring in the attic two years ago and some ultrasonic pest control devices seemed to get rid of them. Had some cameras set up back then and it was amazing how she climbed up a windowsill, then a downspout and finally made a graceful leap up onto the roof. Doubt that a raccoon could do the same. Caught and killed some with a trap elsewhere some years ago and they're not sleek enough to pull off the same feat.

Looking for something that would keep a marten from climbing the downspout. There's these spike things and I applied some tough Mylar plastic like a sleeve around the drainpipes once, so they couldn't get purchase with their claws. Personally, I lean towards Claymores but that's just me and they're harder and harder to come by.

Edit: It was in 2021 https://vid8.poal.co/user/webrustler/I7m66hi https://vid8.poal.co/user/webrustler/H3hsNyE
